Welcome to the Order of St Edward

A confraternal Baronial Order of Knighthood, the Knightly Order of St Edward the Confessor was originally founded by Stephen de Mandeville, Baron of Erlestoke, on his way to the Holy Land (where he died in 1154, near Jerusalem), in response to fall of the Crusader State of the County of Edessa on December 24, 1144 which triggered Stephen's involvement in the Second Crusade.

Edward the Confessor was patronised heavily by King Henry III, an attachment which dominated his spiritual life and inspired his rebuilding of Westminster Abbey.
